The Governance and Democracy programme seeks to deepen and broaden CPDA’s current engagement with communities at the grassroots in a bid to ingrain community involvement in the governance process at local level. Kenya has since independence sustained a Government, which has provided its people with the rule of law in a manner, equaled by very few countries in Africa. Overtime however, the leadership style and moral fiber of our nation has continued to drift from integrity, democratic, and nationalistic ideals. Responsible morals and good governance have been lost to corruption, callousness, irresponsibility, ethnicity, land grabbing, fraud, manipulation, and self-aggrandizement. The Governance and Democracy Programmes overall objective is therefore to generate a proliferation of definition, systems of belief, and demanding circumstances for the reversal of previous values in a bid to restore hope to the poor and marginalized communities. This is achieved through enabling them identify their needs and use their potential to find solutions to these needs. The programme, which has several projects under it continues to grow from strength to strength and has been significantly successful in facilitating dialogue between the local administration/authorities and communities on governance. The projects under the governance and democracy programme include Alternative Leadership Project, Gender and Governance Project, Civic Education and Advocacy activities around emerging issues affecting citizenry at large. PROGRAMME GOAL To cultivate a society that can effectively engage and interrogate structures of governance at local and national levels from an informed standpoint. |
