CHAIRPERSON'S STATEMENT-CPDA and its Work acute as ever

(Below; Alice Kirambi, CPDA Executive Director and Emmy Sumbeiywo, CPDA Chairperson Board of Directors)

The results of poor governance, ethnicity, inequality and ultimate political ineptitude were proof in 2008, fifteen years since its inception, the need for CPDA and its work remains as acute as ever.

Post election chaos and false starts in 2008, led many Kenyans and partners to think deep on governance, leadership, development and failures of national institutions.

Putting Kenya on the right track requires looking beyond the usual suspects.  A successful fight against poor leadership and governance addresses all elements of the ‘production chain’ – not only the leaders and citizens, but poor leadership’s facilitators.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S FOREWORD-Our quest for empowered communities:  It is our pleasure to present the 2008 CPDA Annual Report. This report is one way of letting the world know what we did in 2008 to uplift the living standards of the poor and disadvantaged in Kenya and beyond through partnership, capacity building and development programmes.

This year, CPDA reports the implementation of a four year Action dubbed Western Kenya Livelihoods Empowerment Programme (WEKLEP). The Action seeks to empower communities with skills and support in areas of governance, agriculture, and community health.

Alice Kirambi, Excecutive Director
